CIREM the Interuniversity Economic Research and Mobility Center of the University of Cagliari and Sassari, has been awarded as Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence by the by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).

The aims and objectives of the Jean Monnet Centre for Sustainability Studies in the Med Area – CeSSMed, are those of strengthening the reflection about European sustainability policies among those target group addressed by the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (JM CoE) call: students, professionals, civil servants and public and private stakeholder representatives.

In particular, the proposed JM CoE CeSSMed intends to work on some of the Specific and Operational objectives of JM Centre of Excellence:

- equipping students and young professionals with knowledge of European Union subjects relevant for their academic and professional lives and enhancing their civic skills;
- communication and dissemination of the EU policies related to Sustainability issues among not only academic and students but also civil servants, civil society representatives and citizens in order to foster the dialogue between the academic world and policy-makers, in particular to enhance governance of EU policies make them aware about European sustainability policies and the importance of European efforts on these issues to build a more sustainable
Europe.

Students are supported to practice with problem solutions not only getting scientific knowledge but also proposing new ideas and sustainable solutions using theoretical framework exposed in teaching activities.

The creation of a JM Centre of Excellence CeSSMed, related to social, environmental, and economical sustainability fields, as defined by the New Green Deal, appears of particular importance now both for the environmental challenges EU is daily facing and since we are across of the current programming period 2021-2027.
Finally, the JM CoE CeSSMed would create and let grow a network of people actively involved in EU sustainability matters and with a strong sense of active citizenship.

The first Summer School, about Sustainable Mobility, to be held from the 12th to the 16th of September 2023, is now open for registration and information.
